BOILER BLOW DOWN PROCEDURE
Blowdown is done to -:
✓ Reduce the density of boiler water by reducing the water level (and hence removing sludge and solids) and refilling it with distilled water.
✓ Empty the boiler after shutdown and prior to entry.
✓ Reduce the water level in an emergency.
✓ To adjust the Total Dissolved Solid level some quantity of boiler water is removed
PROCEDURE -:
1. Close the water cock and steam cock, and open drain cock .
2. Open the steam cock a strong blow will indicate the steam cock is clear.
3. Then closing steam cock , open water cock a strong blow now
indicates the water cock is clear.
4. Close the water cock and the drain cock
5. Then open the water cock very slowly. If the water level in the
boiler is above the passage to this cock, it will enter the glass and rise slowly to the top.
6. Now open the steam cock , and the correct water level in the boiler will be indicated
7. This should be between one quarter to three quarters of the glass.
